How has Cable Internet Gotten Faster Over The Years

Cable modems

When I first had the internet I remember waiting almost literally five minutes for that thing to connect with the beep beep beep pshhhhhh sounds to let you know it was connecting. We learned later that noise literally meant nothing, but anyone who had the internet in the 1990’s knew what it was.

Back then I had no idea what “56k” meant with my service, but it was the connection speed and I just laugh now thinking about how slow that is. Can you even browse the internet on that kind of connection now with how much multimedia and such on sites? I can’t imagine so.

I remember when I first got Time Warner high speed internet and it was almost life changing. That’s a bit drastic to say, but it completely changed everything about the internet for me. I think it was only something like 5-10Mbps, which is much slower than the 40Mbps that I have now with Time Warner, but it literally changed the internet experience.

You didn’t need to wait a few minutes for a simple picture to load anymore. It was a very stark difference in the overall experience of the web and just how much you could do online.

I still had to wait on videos to load, but it happened so much faster. It made the internet almost something like a quick tool more than a novelty. It was so much easier to not only check my e-mail, but now I can watch movies on the fly on things like Netflix. It takes just seconds to load the video, even in HD!

Even looking back at the first stages of cable internet, it’s funny to just imagine how much slower it is than what I have now from Time Warner cable.

Exede Evolution: A Quick Review

Exede satellite Internet, provided by ViaSat, has released at new service plan that could be a game changer for the satellite internet industry. It’s called Exede Evolution and it’s the first of its kind to provide users with “unlimited” browsing for web pages and email.

I used quotes for unlimited because it only counts towards web pages, email, social media platforms, and very media light web pages. With the plan that priced at $65/ a month, you also receive a 5GB data allowance for streaming music, videos and transferring large files. Given a chance to check out the service for a month, we took a look.

First off, with the Evolution plan, you will receive the standard 12 Mbps/3Mbps download and upload speeds, which is plenty fast for most users. Browsing the internet was pretty snappy, with web pages loading pretty quickly and only dealing with a slight delay when opening pages that had multiple media elements to it. Speed tests found that we would actually average 13 Mbps downloads and 2 Mbps upload speeds, which is rare to actually get above what is advertised. Although those are positives, there was one big drawback. The 5 GB data cap is very rigid, although they do offer Free Zone times where it’s an all you can consume data buffet during those hours. As a person who loves to catch up on TV shows on Netflix, that cap is brutal. That said, streaming movies and videos in high definition is stellar and buffering wasn’t more than a few seconds when things got choked up.

All in all, Exede Evolution is a solid service best suited for folks who don’t have heavy uses for video streaming, but yet still like having a blazing fast internet connection.

Different Technologies Used To Give Internet Service

Exede Satellite

Internet connectivity in the united states has been growing at a brisk pace and the FCC has taken steps to ensure that the Internet reaches the interiors of America. Different technologies used to offer Online connections to customers include dial-up, broadband, cable modem, and DSL. Dial-up is one of many oldest technologies and among the brand new technologies Satellite Internet has been preferred by many subscribers. AOL could be the leading American company which offers dial-up connections to subscribers and HughesNet could be the leading player among Satellite Internet providers. We are able to draw a fascinating analogy when you compare dial-up services to Satellite Internet services. It is much like a short garden hose in comparison to a longer fire hose. It might just take an additional for the water to get to the end of the garden hose, but to fill up a swimming it can take days. It make have a fraction of an additional longer for that water to attain the end of a fire hose but it’ll just take minutes to fill a pool.

Exede Satellite Internet scores over dial-up and any modes of Internet connectivity due to the wide reach of the services. In areas where dial-up or cable modem is not accessible, Satellite Internet providers could offer service because connecting to the transponder requires only a plate and a modem. Cabling is not required like one other modes of Internet connectivity. The price of Satellite Internet is really a roadblock and people in the cities prefer using broadband or DSL connectivity. The major players offering dial-up connections in America include AOL, NetZero and Juno and AOL leads the race.

Satellite Online connections offer faster download and upload speeds when compared with dial-up connectivity. The normal download speed for a dial-up connection is 56 Kbps and for a Satellite Net connection it varies between 700 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps. Speed is one of many primary reasoned explanations why Satellite Internet connectivity scores over dial-up Internet connections. It’s not practically possible to download large applications using dial-up connections. The slow speed often eventually ends up in congestion, packet losses and ultimately the text time-out producing a frustrating experience. Dial-up service providers will also be gearing around your competition and are offering features like higher speeds, unique e-mail addresses, Email virus protection, spam controls, Appear blockers and other functionalities. Monthly charge for dial-up Internet is less than Satellite Internet. While a dial-up connection will set you back approximately $10-$25 monthly, satellite Internet services could cost $39.99 to $179.99 per month. Satellite Internet has some upfront costs for installing of dish and modem.
